Fun crosswor! Hadn’t heard of 3 of the themed words but managed to get from wordplay, cross letters and checking. Had to cheat for 17D.
Liked amongst others 1D, 2D, and 8D which is a great clue for Kiwis. 15 is clever. Liked 11A, my first in and especially as Spoonerisms are not my forte, but started at the end and worked back.
Just one wordplay to get.12 A, …parsed it a couple of ways, but not sure.

12A is one of the seven themed clues. FWitD; next word is subject to two deletions, then the thematic operation.
Ah, got it now. I had the answer but gutted the bomber rather than disheartening it,and then ‘forsook love’ was lost on me to explain the middle letters of the the me. : ).
